Take a Tour of Home Edit 603’s Latest Basement Design and Remodel in Hollis, NH

Home Edit 603 recently completed a remarkable basement renovation in Hollis, NH that perfectly blended our clients design style with our design expertise and commitment to quality. Here’s a glimpse into this project to inspire your next home improvement venture.

Moody Maximalist Touches Bring this Basement to Life

Maximalist design is all about embracing abundance and diversity in decor, focusing on rich, vibrant colors, bold patterns, and a mix of textures. Unlike minimalist design, which emphasizes simplicity and restraint, maximalism celebrates a more-is-more approach. It encourages layering various elements, such as ornate furniture, eclectic artwork, and luxurious fabrics, to create a dynamic, visually stimulating environment. This style often incorporates a mix of vintage and modern pieces, global influences, and a curated collection of personal items, resulting in spaces that are deeply personal and full of character. We are excited to take you on a tour of this design which perfectly embodies these elements.

A Basement Bar Like No Other

A stunning centerpiece of this renovation is the spacious basement bar, designed to be the ultimate gathering spot. This bar comfortably seats six and features custom glass door display cabinets where glassware shines highlighted by interior lighting and custom antiqued mirror film applied to the interior backs of the cabinetry. The base cabinets are finished in a sophisticated Hunter Green color evoking vintage speakeasy vibes.

The countertops are crafted from luxurious custom Panda quartz, offering a striking visual appeal that’s both timeless and contemporary. Green, black and brown prism shaped marble backsplash tile adds an extra layer of elegance and texture making this bar a true statement piece perfect for entertaining guest.

Moody and Inviting Seating Area Adjacent to the Bar

A major item on our clients wish list was to incorporate a space to relax for movie nights and hosting the game. With this in mind we created a seating area that balances functionality with character and warmth. The electric fireplace is surrounded floor-to-ceiling by black and white panda polished porcelain tiles creating a dramatic visual centerpiece that complements the quartz countertops used throughout the bar area and powder room. Floor-to-ceiling Hunter Green hutches flank the fireplace with glass front cabinets creating a grand display for treasured collections.

Sophisticated Statement Wall

To elevate the space further, shadow boxes with downward sconces frame our clients favorite photography, enhancing the visual impact from across the room and creating a gallery-like experience in the basement.

No Detail Went Unnoticed

By far, one of our favorite elements of this basement design was the incorporation of custom pine tray ceilings. This design feature creates the feel of higher ceilings and adds contrast throughout the main areas of the basement while maximizing the ceiling height around existing duct work. This additional touch of drama and texture perfectly contrasts the walls, doors, and trims- painted entirely in Benjamin Moore’s “Black”. A bold decision that paid off tremendously for the overall aesthetic of this basement.

High Contrast Luxury Vinyl Plank and Custom Runner

To add to the high contrast and drama of this basement we opted for gorgeous Lighthouse Point Natural Oak Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring by NextFloors throughout. This design feature is not just beautiful, it’s durable and water proof which makes it perfect for basements. The flooring is also carried up the stairwell for a true “Oh La La” design touch. The black risers and LVP stair treads act as the perfect framework for the incredible Courtisan Black and White custom runner that continues to the upstairs of the home. This stairwell is yet another area not neglected of style and function with an added custom bench nook to its right adding additional seating and a pop of color to an otherwise dead space below the stair case.

A Powder Room Worth Raving Over.. Or In

The Powder room is where this modern maximalism design shines. We spiced up the space with black wainscot on the lower half and “Midnight Agate” custom wallpaper treatment above sourced from HapiArt.com. The black vanity and black and white panda quartz countertops tie the design together, offering a bold yet cohesive look. This powder room is a perfect blend of dramatic style and functional elegance sure to impress guests.

A Playroom for the Kiddos

Moody entertainment areas were not the only must have on this clients list! We wanted to design a bright and airy kids’ room that’s perfect for play and education. Custom desks and cozy bean bag chairs provide comfortable areas to study and play mixed with bright colors and fun patterns to stimulate creativity.

An under-stair reading nook cleverly utilizes dead space beneath the staircase, while a large bookshelf offers ample storage for toys and books. This charming addition (a dream of the clients!) is a cheerful haven for getting lost in a storybook with your stuffies. Balancing functionality with fun, the swinging rattan chair adds another playful element to the design and function of the playroom.
