Full Service Interior Design Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before we begin.
Choosing the right design partner is an important decision. Below are answers to some of the questions we hear most often about our full-service design process. If you don’t see your question here, we’d be happy to discuss it during your discovery consultation.
Can I purchase my own fixtures, finishes, or furnishings?
To ensure a seamless design and installation process, all materials, fixtures, furnishings, and décor specified by Home Edit are procured through our team.
Managing procurement allows us to coordinate deliveries, inspect products for damage, resolve manufacturer issues, verify quantities, and ensure every item arrives at the appropriate stage of construction. It also helps maintain the integrity of the design by ensuring every selected piece works together exactly as intended.
Our goal is to eliminate unnecessary stress and provide a cohesive, well-managed experience from start to finish.
Can I use my own contractor?
Absolutely.
Many of our clients already have a trusted contractor, builder, or remodeling team.
Home Edit works collaboratively with your contractor throughout the project, providing detailed construction documents, answering design questions, clarifying details, and coordinating design intent as work progresses.
To maintain consistency and avoid delays, Home Edit manages the specification and procurement of all design-related materials, while your contractor focuses on installation and construction.
Can I purchase some items myself to save money?
Because our projects are developed as complete, coordinated designs, we do not separate procurement responsibilities between multiple parties.
Having one team manage all specified materials reduces scheduling conflicts, minimizes installation issues, simplifies warranty support, and allows us to stand behind the finished result with confidence.
Can you design around furniture or pieces I already own?
Absolutely.
If there are meaningful pieces you’d like to incorporate—whether it’s a family heirloom, artwork, or favorite furniture—we’ll thoughtfully integrate them into the overall design whenever possible.
Do you offer DIY design services?
At this time, our full-service interior design experience is intended for clients seeking comprehensive design guidance from concept through installation.
For smaller-scale projects, such as paint consultations, mudrooms, powder rooms, window treatments, or styling services, our Signature Collections may be a great fit. If you’re unsure which service best fits your needs, we’d be happy to discuss your project.
Will I approve every design decision?
Yes.
Every major selection is presented for your review before it is ordered.
Through our online selection portal, you’ll be able to view product information, pricing, renderings, and supporting materials, allowing you to confidently approve or request revisions throughout the design process.
What if I change my mind?
Design is an evolving process, and refinements are a natural part of collaboration.
Revisions made during the design phases are expected and help ensure the final design reflects your vision. Once selections have been approved and materials have been ordered, changes may result in additional costs or project delays.
Do you work with renovation projects or only new construction?
Both.
Whether you’re renovating an existing home, building new, or furnishing completed spaces, our process is tailored to meet the unique needs of your project.
How involved will I need to be?
As involved as you’d like to be.
We guide you through every important decision while managing the countless details behind the scenes. Our goal is to make the experience collaborative without becoming overwhelming.
What happens after the design is complete?
Our work doesn’t end when the drawings are finished.
We remain actively involved throughout procurement, construction, installation, and final styling, working alongside your contractor and trades to help ensure every detail is executed according to the design intent.
